Knitting: The Marius Sweater- A National Icon
It's no secret the Norway is famous for a couple things, doing pretty great in the Winter Olympics and knitting. Children are taught knitting in school and it is really part of the culture there. One of the most famous knit patterns in the world is a Norwegian design know as the Marius. The design is inspired by an even more well-known pattern called the Setesdal. The Marius pattern was created by Unn Søiland in 1953 and was named after Marius Erikson. Erikson wore many hats, he was an ace fighter pilot during WWII, a champion alpine skier, and an actor.
